Palliative care

Working across The Royal Marsden, the Palliative Care Team is made up of doctors and nurse specialists with training which allows them to deliver specific types of care.

The team works alongside your own team of doctors and nurses, to help with pain and other symptoms which may be a problem for you. They also work within a wider multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and chaplains to provide a comprehensive palliative care service.

They offer support to you and your family and friends, and act as a link between hospital and home.

Any member of your medical or nursing team can refer you to the palliative care team. Referrals are generally made for advice and/or assessment in the following areas:

  • Control of pain
  • Control of other symptoms
  • Emotional / psychological support
  • Emotional / psychological support for relatives
  • Arranging ongoing community support
  • End-of-life care.
