Outpatient care

The Outpatient Departments at The Royal Marsden's hospitals in Chelsea and Sutton provide clinics for new patients, patients receiving treatment and those requiring follow-up

Each week we see around 3,400 patients – 1,450 in Chelsea and 1,950 in Sutton.

Travel and transport

Outpatient appointments normally take place in the main Outpatient Departments. You will be advised which hospital your appointment is at when you receive the appointment. If you are attending a clinic that is held in a different part of the hospital, we will tell you how to get there.

If you require an ambulance to bring you to your appointment you need to contact our Patient Transport team. Hospital transport is organised in advance so please phone to arrange it as early as possible. If you have come to your appointment by hospital transport please tell reception staff when you arrive in Outpatients.


At both hospitals the Friends of The Royal Marsden provide refreshments where you can buy sandwiches, cakes, snacks and drinks while you are waiting.

What to bring with you

  • A list of your current medicines or a copy of your repeat prescription. This allows the nurse and doctor to see and assess what medicines you are taking
  • Any correspondence you may have about your condition
  • Any recent test results from other hospitals
