The Royal Marsden has an international reputation for support services such as dietetics and nutrition, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy, which make a real difference to our patients.
The specialist staff working in these areas lead their fields and have recently won a range of accolades. Paediatric Senior Specialist Dietitians Louise Henry and Gayle Black have won the Complete Nutrition Writer of the Year Award.
This was in recognition of their outstanding articles in Complete Nutrition magazine on childhood leukaemia and teenage and young adult cancer care.
The awards don’t stop there: The Royal Marsden’s booklet Eating Well When You Have Cancer was the runner-up in this year’s British Medical Association Patient Information Awards for the NHS Trusts category.
Also, Dr Justin Roe, Joint Head of Speech and Language Therapy, and Grainne Brady, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, were both awarded a Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Giving Voice Award for their significant and innovative contributions to the profession.
Finally, Dr Andrew Hodgkiss, Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist, has published his book, Biological Psychiatry of Cancer and Cancer Treatment, through Oxford University Press. The book looks at how certain cancers and treatments can affect a patient’s mental health, and what can be done to alleviate this.
