The 2,500 people who work here – surgeons, pharmacists, rehabilitation therapists and other experts – are all cancer specialists renowned for their clinical excellence.
As a comprehensive cancer centre The Royal Marsden has the capacity to treat a wide range of cancer types and sub-types, using all available treatment techniques, including many that were developed here.
Our team includes many eminent and respected individuals who lead the world in their understanding of cancer types and sub-types. Through their work here they have pioneered many new cancer treatments that are now the standard of care worldwide.

Our consultants are leaders in their fields, recognised world-wide for their cancer care and commitment to research, and are active in national and international bodies publishing, presenting and reviewing the latest cancer guidance, research and innovations.
We have over 150 consultants working for The Royal Marsden, all of whom are cancer specialists and of which over 25 are professors of cancer medicine.
The Royal Marsden is widely acknowledged as a leading authority on all aspects of cancer care and The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Practice is the best-selling nursing textbook in the UK.
As a result we attract and retain the highest calibre of specialist nursing and we are committed to developing their knowledge and expertise so they can further raise standards.
I have been overwhelmed by the courtesy, compassion and care given to me during my stay here.
The Royal Marsden now has 12 PhD-qualified nurses and all nurses have the opportunity to access education through The Royal Marsden School. This means that nurses are empowered to implement the latest nursing best practice, innovate to improve patient care and lead groundbreaking research.
The Royal Marsden pioneered the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), a senior nursing role that is dedicated to supporting patients throughout and beyond their cancer treatment. CNSs support patients to manage their side-effects, suggest rehabilitation or possible complimentary therapies and link patients to external sources of support.
