Paying for your treatment

The Royal Marsden accepts payment from insured, sponsored or self-paying patients.

The Royal Marsden provides private care to patients who have private medical insurance, are sponsored by a third party or are paying for their own treatment (self-funding).

Your account

Your charges, payments and deposits will be recorded on a unique account, which we create for every private patient. This is administered by the Private Care accounts office. If you have any questions about your account, you can call the office at any time.

Liability

When you register for private care at The Royal Marsden, we ask you to sign our ‘Undertaking to Pay’ form. Signing the form confirms that you or your representative accept ultimate responsibility for the hospital charges, whether you are insured, sponsored or self funding. As part of this process, we will ask you for proof of address and identification.

UK patients need to provide a driving licence or both their passport and a recent utility bill. International patients need to provide their passport, visa (if applicable) and proof of address.

The Royal Marsden provides private care to:

  • patients who have private medical insurance
  • patients who are paying for their own treatment (self-funding)
  • patients who are sponsored by an embassy or other third party

How to make a payment

When you register, we will ask you to provide your credit card details. This is so we can settle any outstanding charges with you quickly and efficiently. This process is common practice with private hospitals throughout London. If you are liable for any charges following your treatment, we will send you a bill after discharge.

You will have 14 days from the date of the invoice to query any charges or pay your bill. If you haven't paid after 14 days we will charge the balance to the card details you have supplied. Your card details will be kept securely and we will not charge you without notifying you.

We accept the following methods of payment:

  • All forms of credit card
  • Bank transfers (the Private Care accounts office can provide you with the appropriate details)
  • Banker’s draft
  • Debit/credit card
  • Cash (sterling only). Please note we can only take up to the amount of £5,000. While we can refund cash, this can take up to one week
  • Personal cheques supported by a cheque guarantee card are not accepted

If you have a question or complaint regarding the charges made to your credit/debit card, please contact Private Care Accounts. We accept all forms of credit card. If you don't have a credit card you may be required to pay a cash deposit.
