The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research

A world-class facility for breast cancer research, the Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research is staffed by a team of world-renowned clinicians and scientists working with the latest technology to set a benchmark for cancer research around the world

Research developments have seen many more women survive their primary breast cancer and The Royal Marsden has delivered multiple advances in translational research that continue to influence patient care. The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research incorporates four strands of pioneering research, drawing upon new technological advances to allow much more rapid and in-depth analysis of our patients’ disease.

The overall aim is to identify molecular differences between tumours that allow the optimal treatment of individual breast cancer patients, thereby reducing recurrence and mortality from the disease as well as eliminating unnecessary toxicity.

Over recent years the programme of translational research in breast cancer at The Royal Marsden has delivered multiple advances that continue to influence patient care. The integration of our clinical and laboratory research has played a major part in that success.

The four programme strands will maintain that approach and draw upon new technological advances that allow much more rapid and in-depth molecular analysis of our patients’ disease.

The conduct of this work will be markedly improved by the centralisation of this programme in bespoke laboratory accommodation. The impact of this centre's work will affect cancer patients of today and tomorrow and set a benchmark for global breast cancer treatment.

Ralph Lauren's philanthropy

Ralph Lauren himself has long been recognised for his early leadership in the fight against cancer. More than 20 years ago, after a close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, he made a commitment to focus his philanthropic efforts on eradicating the disease. In 2014, Ralph Lauren visited The Royal Marsden in Chelsea and attended a gala dinner at Windsor Castle to celebrate the pioneering work of The Royal Marsden following his generous donation to The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research.

2015 saw the 15th anniversary of Ralph Lauren’s Pink Pony campaign, which sees 25% of the retail price from the fashion designer’s Pink Pony range donated to cancer charities in the UK and the US, including The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
