- surgery for soft tissue sarcoma, in particular retroperitoneal, pelvic and intra-abdominal sarcomas
- surgery for melanoma and skin cancers
- application of minimally invasive surgery to the management of rare cancers
Mr Smith has both a private and an NHS practice at The Royal Marsden. He is a Consultant Surgical Oncologist and General Surgeon in the Sarcoma Unit and Skin Unit at The Royal Marsden.
He joined The Royal Marsden's Sarcoma and Melanoma Unit in 2014. Prior to his appointment at The Royal Marsden he trained as a general surgeon with a special interest in colorectal surgery in Ireland. He subsequently underwent additive specialist training in General Surgical Oncology as a fellow at the University of Toronto.
He has a special interest in surgery for soft tissue sarcoma and melanoma, in particular retroperitoneal, pelvic and intra-abdominal sarcomas (e.g. GIST, leiomyosarcoma and SFT) as well as anorectal and visceral melanoma. He has an interest in the application of minimally invasive surgery to the management of rare cancers.
