Dr Sameer Zar is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at The Royal Marsden. He offers endoscopic ultrasound, endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection of early upper and lower GI cancers in addition to upper and lower GI endoscopy. He is also the upper GI cancer lead at Epsom and St Helier NHS trust.
He completed his postgraduate training in General Medicine & Gastroenterology in the South West London in 2005. Dr Zar was awarded a PhD by the University of London for his research work on the role of food hypersensitivity in Irritable Bowel Syndrome and its effect on gastrointestinal motility at at St George's Hospital Medical School. He has published several peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals.
He is expert in all forms of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP. He has special interest in diagnosis and endoscopic management of gastrointestinal and pancreatobiliary cancers. He also runs a GI physiology laboratory and hepatitis service at St Helier Hospital. In addition he manages patients with dyspepsia, reflux disease, Barrett’s oesophagus, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and chronic pancreatic and liver conditions.
