Biography

Dr Robert Self is a Consultant Anaesthetist, appointed to The Royal Marsden in 2006. He qualified in 1995 after completing undergraduate training at UMDS of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals. Dr Self completed specialist registrar anaesthetic training on the North Thames Central UCL and Royal Free rotation. He also worked as a Research Fellow in the UCL Centre for Anaesthesia/UCL Haemostasis Research Unit and was awarded a higher degree – MD (Res) – in 2012.

Dr Self was previously Lead Paediatric Anaesthetist (2009-16) at The Royal Marsden. His non-clinical activities focus on training - he is currently Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCOA) tutor (2016-present) and was previously Anaesthetics Out of Programme (OOP) Lead of NCEL School of Anaesthesia (2014 – 2017).

In October 2018, Dr Self was elected to a national role as a Board member of the Association of Anaesthetists. He is particularly interested in physician wellbeing and intends to promote this during his term. He is a mentor on the Association of Anaesthetists Mentoring Scheme.
