Dr. Kara Heelan has both a private and an NHS practice at The Royal Marsden. She is a Consultant Dermatologist, with a special interest in skin cancer, cutaneous oncology and drug toxicities.

She graduated from University College Dublin medical school with an honours degree. She underwent dermatology training in Ireland following which she undertook research at the University of Toronto and University College Cork. She was awarded her MD Thesis for her work on autoimmune bullous dermatoses. She completed the University of Toronto Advanced Medical Dermatology Fellowship with a special interest in drug reactions in 2013. She subsequently completed a Fellowship in Skin Cancer and Dermatological Surgery at University College London Hospital in 2016. She joined the Skin Unit at the Royal Marsden in 2017. 

Her research interests are in drug toxicities associated with targeted therapy and immnotherapy. She is a member of NCRI Skin Cancer clinical studies group and sits on the British Association of Dermatologists guideline group for bullous pemphigoid.
