Dr Charlotte Benson has both a private and NHS practice at The Royal Marsden. She is a Consultant Medical Oncologist specialising in the treatment of soft tissue sarcomas with systemic therapy including chemotherapy and targeted agents.
She qualified from University of Liverpool Medical School in 1995 and completed her general medical training in Liverpool and London. She trained in medical oncology at The Royal Marsden including a period of research in early drug development in the Phase I unit.
On completion of her specialist training in 2010 she joined the Sarcoma Unit. Dr Benson has a strong interest in clinical trials, acting as chief and principal investigator in national and international trials. She has a special interest in the role of chemotherapy and targeted therapies in soft tissue sarcomas, with particular focus on histology-guided therapy and drug development in sarcoma.
She is actively involved in coordinating sarcoma research and is a member of the NCRI Sarcoma Clinical Studies Group and the EORTC Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcoma Group. Dr Benson has a strong interest in medical education and enjoys teaching and mentoring staff from within the unit and from overseas.
