Haematology diagnostics

State-of-the-art technology and world-class expertise combine to provide The Royal Marsden’s haematology diagnostics service (SIHMDS).

Our histopathology, molecular diagnostics, immunophenotyping and cytogenetics laboratories share specialised knowledge to produce integrated assessments for all types of leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related disorders.

A team of six haematologists, three haemato-pathologists and more than 30 scientists work together to provide an integrated approach for the diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring of haematological malignancies.

Algorithms are used to best provide an accurate diagnosis and the necessary prognostic information to enable personalised treatment plans for patients. A diagnostic report provides expert scientific interpretation of the results with a consultant's final diagnosis, in accordance with WHO classification.

This haematology diagnostics service is compliant with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) improving outcomes guidance. It aims to provide targeted, cost-effective and timely diagnostic results to improve patient outcomes. It is available to NHS, private and research clients in the UK and overseas.

The laboratories also offer individual, stand-alone testing. We offer IDH1 and IDH2 testing for adult patients with AML either at presentation or at relapse. You can use our standard request form for these.
