GP Referrals for diagnosis (NHS e-Referrals, formerly Choose and Book)

Referring patients with suspected cancer

  • Priority menu – select ‘2WW’
  • Specialty menu – select ‘2WW’
  • Clinic Type menu – select ‘2WW xxxx’ as appropriate for suspected tumour site

To be certain that The Royal Marsden will appear as an option for referral please click on ‘Search All’ and not ‘Search Primary Care’. You should then be able to select a service.

Referrals for treatment or continuation of follow-up (NHS e-Referrals)

Priority menu

  • You can select either ‘Urgent’ or ‘Routine’ as we treat all referrals as urgent

Specialty menu

  • Select as appropriate for tumour site

Clinic Type menu

  • Select as appropriate (often this will be ‘oncology – established diagnosis’)

To be certain that The Royal Marsden appears as an option for referral please click on ‘Search All’ and not ‘Search Primary Care’.

Some of our services require clinical triage and therefore a clinic appointment cannot be booked directly. This includes requests for 2nd opinions. Instead, GPs will be able to refer into a Referral Assessment Service (RAS). A clinician will then triage the request.

Please be assured that all referrals are dealt with quickly and a timely appointment made.

If you are unable to refer using NHS e-Referrals

If you are unable to refer using NHS e-Referrals please contact our Central Referral Office:

Central Referral Office
The Royal Marsden
Downs Road, Sutton
Surrey SM2 5PT

Tel: 0800 731 2325
Fax: 020 8661 3149

Please note that the Royal Marsden will be switching off paper GP referrals on 28th August 2018 and all referrals from GPs should be received via the e-RS system.

Business continuity for e-RS downtime

Should the e-Referrals system become unavailable, a policy is already in place to cover this, and your CCG will advise you when referrals can be sent to Trusts’ via email.

Please wait until the CCG emails or telephones the practice before sending hardcopies.
