Safe staffing levels

All NHS hospitals are now required to publish information about the number of nursing staff working on each inpatient ward, together with the percentage of shifts that meet safe staffing guidelines.

These guidelines are set by the National Quality Board and NICE, and this initiative is part of the NHS response to the Francis report, which called for greater openness and transparency.

The high standard of nursing at The Royal Marsden and the ratio of nurses to patients have been regularly reviewed. We believe these have been key factors in our consistently high patient satisfaction levels, as demonstrated in the NHS Inpatient Survey and Friends and Family Test results.

Our staffing levels

The documents below show an overview of staffing levels across all inpatient wards at The Royal Marsden. It is important to note that there are times when ward occupancy (patient numbers) is lower and staff levels are adjusted accordingly. The details around ward occupancy will be provided in subsequent reports. To view reports pre April 2017, please e-mail
