Equality objectives

Our equality objectives set out our response to supporting and progressing the commitments of the three aims of the Equality Duty, within the Equality Act 2010.

The Equality Act 2010 combines all public sector duties and gives protection to the following protected equality characteristics:

  • age
  • sexual orientation
  • gender reassignment
  • sex
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race
  • religion or belief
  • disability
  • marriage and civil partnership

See below to download our equality objectives for 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017. If you require the equality objectives to be made available to you in a different format, for example another language or in a larger font, please email diversity@rmh.nhs.uk.

Why have we chosen these equality objectives?

We have used our equality information to help us determine the priority areas for our equality objectives.

As we implement the Equality Delivery System and consider other equality information, we may identify further areas for focus which we will then include as additional equality objectives.

For some of the protected characteristic areas where we do not have local data, we have looked at national information and are talking with national or local charitable and voluntary organisations about the issues for the people they represent.

Engagement on our equality objectives

Our equality objectives have been developed through discussion with patients, carers, members, governors, directors, managers and have been agreed with the Board. The equality objectives are monitored by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group.
