Patient and carer research review panel

Research nurse and patient

As part of our ongoing commitment to involve patients and carers in everything that we do, we run a patient and carer research review panel which reviews research sponsored by the Royal Marsden.

The panel reviews a range of research ideas and documents, including protocols, proposals and patient information, often via post or email. The panel also meets quarterly for training and to meet clinical researchers to discuss potential projects and research. Any suggestions about improving the way we do things are discussed with the researchers who will then feed back about how they intend to incorporate these suggestions into practice.

We are currently looking for people to join the panel. Apply now

What the panel does

Patients and carers on the panel will be involved in helping to review research ideas, research protocols and study procedures, and collaborating on patient information sheets.

We anticipate that over time, this level of involvement may extend to managing, undertaking and disseminating research, and helping the hospital plan, design and commission research.

This is very exciting prospect for The Royal Marsden as it means that we will be working more closely with those affected by cancer and, in doing so, gaining insights that will allow our research to be more inclusive and considerate of patients and carers’ perspectives.

If you don’t want to join the panel but you would like to make a suggestion about research at The Royal Marsden, please fill in our research ideas form.
