Prostate cancer diagnostic pathway
The Royal Marsden has improved its follow up pathway for prostate patients
The Royal Marsden’s Rapid Diagnostic and Assessment Centre
Two week rule referrals for bladder and prostate are seen within The Royal Marsden’s Rapid Diagnostic and Assessment Centre (RDAC) on a Tuesday morning.
The clinic has facilities to offer a range of procedures carried out on the same day including MRI, flexi, flow rate, bladder scan and Trus Biopsy if appropriate. This reduces the numbers of visits patients need to make to the Trust.
Improved follow up protocol for prostate patients
The Royal Marsden has improved its follow up pathway for prostate patients:
- Preparing patients for follow-up pre-treatment through pre-treatment education seminars focusing on self-management of side effects and coping strategies.
- Dedicated survivorship clinic with structured review points up to transfer of care to GP (at 2 years) with clear trigger points for re-referral.
The multi-professional survivorship clinic and health and wellbeing events ensures that post treatment complications are addressed early and efficiently in the patient’s recovery, and focuses on safe discharge into primary care follow-up at 2 years post treatment.
