Integrated care
Integrated care at The Royal Marsden involves the use of therapies and techniques commonly referred to as ‘complementary therapies’ (aromatherapy, massage) as well as other forms of treatment and support offered throughout the hospital (acupuncture, art therapy, relaxation, psychological care, exercise and diet).
Integrated care aims to take into account all your individual needs, and treats you as a whole person.
Integrated care techniques, therapies and information are provided by medical and nursing staff, complementary therapists, allied health professionals, psychologists, the pastoral care team, other members of the rehabilitation department, pharmacists and patient information officers.
How do I get referred?
Access to some of the therapies offered requires a referral from a health professional while others are freely available to patients at their own request. Contact the appropriate team to find out more:
Herbs, homeopathy and supplements – inform your medical team
Many patients use herbal medicines, homeopathic preparations, vitamin and mineral supplements or exclusion diets while they are being treated for cancer.
If you are using, or considering using, any of these therapies we encourage you to discuss them with your medical team. This is because of the possibility of them affecting your regular cancer treatment.
You can also contact the Medicines Information Service or the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics to find out more.
