Outpatients Department

The Outpatients Department at Sutton is a very busy unit. We see over 40,000 patients a year including new patients, patient undergoing all treatment modalities and those requiring long-term follow-up after treatment.

We have a team of nursing staff led by a sister / charge nurse who is supported by three senior staff nurses, staff nurses and healthcare assistants. We work closely with the clerical team with the department. We are committed providing a multi-professional approach to patient care and work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

The Outpatients Department is supported by clinical nurse specialists, dieticians, speech and language therapists and other allied health professionals (AHPs). It is an excellent educational resource for doctors, nurses and other AHPs, with up-to-date knowledge of current research in cancer.

Nursing in the Outpatients Department

The outpatient nursing philosophy is to provide patient-focused care: involving the patients and their carers, and ensuring they receive appropriate and relevant information to enable them to make informed decisions about all aspects of their care. We aim to provide a friendly and efficient service which should minimise a patient’s wait for consultations, investigations and subsequent treatments.
