Intravenous Therapy Team

The Intravenous (IV) Therapy Team is part of Day Care Services at Sutton and is renowned for its cannulation and venepuncture skills. We are a team of registered nurses who are responsible for placing intravenous devices into peripheral veins, for example peripheral cannulas and winged infusion devices. We provide a service predominantly for outpatients, administering their intravenous chemotherapy. The team works closely with pharmacy, the cytotoxic unit and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide an effective service.

Our experience in IV therapy is used as an educational resource, and we offer advice to colleagues within the hospital as well as networking with colleagues throughout the country. We also provide training courses in cannulation and venepuncture.

Our enthusiastic nurse consultant is actively involved in the department, and shares her knowledge in teaching sessions, study days and road shows.

Nursing with the Intravenous Therapy Team

We are a very busy but happy unit. If you would like to be part of our team you need to be motivated, enthusiastic and have a good knowledge of oncology. Venepuncture and cannulation training is provided for those who do not possess these skills.
