Biography

Professor Maggie Watson is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist at The Royal Marsden, and is Head of the Psychological Medicine Service. She leads a comprehensive psychological and psychiatric assessment and intervention service for adult oncology patients.

She trained at the University of Bath and University of Sheffield. She is a member of several national and international groups in the field of oncology and psycho-oncology. She is Honorary Professor in the Department of Clinical, Health and Educational Psychology at University College London and Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Institute of Cancer Research.

She was elected Vice-President of the International Psycho-oncology Society in 2008 and became President of the society in 2010.

She is Co-Editor of Psycho-oncology: Journal of Psychological, Social and Behavioral Dimensions of Cancer.

She is a chief or principal investigator of several research projects. Her research interests include:

  • development and evaluation of psychological therapies for adult cancer patients
  • impact of cancer on families
  • psychosocial factors in cancer genetics
  • quality of life research
  • cancer in the elderly.
