Biography

Professor Gordon Stamp was appointed to The Royal Marsden in November 2009 and is Professor of Cancer Pathology at the Institute of Cancer Research. He is also group leader in Experimental Histopathology at the CRUK London Research Institute and honorary Professor of Pathology at Imperial College London. His research interests include the biology of cancer fibroblasts, non-optical tissue imaging and experimental pathology. His diagnostic expertise covers a range of cancer pathologies, with current responsibilities for skin and gastrointestinal / hepatobiliary cancers.

He graduated in 1978 from Liverpool University with subsequent appointments as lecturer in histopathology at Liverpool University. He completed training at the Hammersmith Hospital where he was subsequently appointed Consultant Senior Lecturer at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in 1990. He was appointed Professor and Chairman of histopathology at Imperial College London in 1997.

He has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and has delivered invited lectures at national and international meetings. He is a member of several scientific committees, particularly those related to tissue banking, including the UK Stem Cell Bank Steering Committee and several national tissue bank boards.
