Biography
Dr Julian Paul Teare is a consultant gastroenterologist of 15 years’ standing. He has sessions at The Royal Marsden and St Mary’s Hospital Paddington, and is an honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College London. He trained at King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas' and St Mary’s, with fellowships in Vancouver, before being appointed consultant at St Mary’s in 1995. He was appointed to The Royal Marsden in 2008.
Dr Teare is an expert endoscopist; he specialises in colonoscopy, allowing a significant proportion of patients to have the procedure without sedation as it can be pain-free.
His interests include colonoscopy and colon cancer screening, abdominal pain and inflammatory bowel disease.
He has major research interests in endoscopy development and is a Wellcome investigator producing a novel endoscope known as the i-Snake. He also leads a programme of research at Imperial on endoscopic techniques to mange obesity and diabetes, and is part of a study group developing NOTES (natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery) – incisionless surgery where operations can be performed without abdominal incisions.
