Biography
Professor Ian Judson read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and Medicine at King’s College and King’s College Hospital, London. He trained in oncology at The Royal Marsden and carried out research for his MD at The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), working on a new anti-cancer agent. He was appointed Senior Lecturer at The Royal Marsden and the ICR in 1989, and became Professor of Cancer Pharmacology in 2001. He has many years’ experience in the development of new anti-cancer drugs, having been involved in early clinical trials with a number of licensed products including carboplatin, temozolomide, raltitrexed and imatinib.
He is actively involved in clinical and laboratory research into the treatment of sarcomas and has 20 years’ experience in the management of these rare diseases. He is Head of the Sarcoma Unit at The Royal Marsden and has held the positions of Chairman of the NCRI Sarcoma Clinical Studies Group, Chairman of the EORTC Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcoma Group and President of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society. He is Chief Investigator for a number of national and international sarcoma trials and has more than 200 peer-reviewed research publications, in addition to numerous reviews, editorials and book chapters. He is currently President of the British Sarcoma Group.
