Professor Cunningham has both a private and an NHS practice at The Royal Marsden.

Biography

Professor David Cunningham is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and Head of the Gastrointestinal Unit at The Royal Marsden. He is also Co-Director of Research Integration for the hospital and The Institute of Cancer Research.

He is presently the Chair of the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI), Upper Gastrointestinal Clinical Studies Group and a committee member of the NCRI Lymphoma Clinical Studies Group, the NCRI High-grade Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma sub-group, the NCRI Clinical Studies Group Chairs’ Forum and the NCRN Operational Steering Group. He is also a member of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Gastrointestinal Cancer Steering Committee and a member of NCI Rectal-Anal Cancer Task Force 2010.

Professor Cunningham is a faculty member of The Institute of Cancer Research. He is a member of numerous professional societies including the British Association for Cancer Research, the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). His previous commitments include a four-year term as a member of the ASCO Education Committee (2001–04). Professor Cunningham also served as a faculty member for the Gastrointestinal Cancer Symposium Program Committee (ASCO) in 2009 and 2010, and is presently a member of the Committee for 2011.

Professor Cunningham is on the Editorial Board of the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Oncology, British Journal of Cancer, Clinical Colorectal Cancer and Current Colorectal Cancer Reports.

Professor Cunningham’s main research interests are clinical trials in gastrointestinal cancer and lymphoma, along with the development of translational research and novel molecular therapies.
