Biography
Dr Udai Banerji obtained his MD in India at the University of Bombay in 1994. He started as a research fellow at The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), obtaining his PhD in 2005 while completing his medical oncology training at The Royal Marsden. He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at The ICR and The Royal Marsden in 2007.
He is involved in running the portfolio of more than 30 Phase I trials at The Royal Marsden’s Drug Development Unit, and is currently Principal Investigator on eight of them. He has extensive interest in the discovery and applications of HSP90 inhibitors and has done Phase I trials of 17-AAG, 17-DMAG, CNF2024 and AUY922.
In addition to Phase 1 trials, his independent laboratory research interests include pharmacodynamic markers for signal transduction inhibitors; biomarker discovery and applications; and the clinical applications of heat shock protein inhibitors, AKT inhibitors and histone deacetylase inhibitors.
