Biography

Dr Gary Cook is a Consultant in Nuclear Medicine at The Royal Marsden. He trained in radiology and then nuclear medicine in London, and after undertaking clinical research in PET was awarded an MD. He came to The Royal Marsden in 2000 to take over the nuclear medicine service and to open a new clinical PET/CT scanning centre.

He has expertise in all aspects of oncological nuclear medicine and PET/CT with particular clinical and research interests in oncological PET/CT.

The nuclear medicine department provides a service for all Royal Marsden patients as well as a PET/CT service for the cancer network and a non-oncological imaging service for other hospitals. The department supports over 50 clinical trials being performed at The Royal Marsden.

Dr Cook is also responsible for the bone densitometry service at The Royal Marsden.

Dr Cook is on the editorial board of the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Clinical Radiology, British Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Communications. He has published widely on aspects of functional imaging in oncology with a focus on skeletal disease. He sits on British Nuclear Medicine Society and Cancer Research UK committees, and teaches regularly on the Royal College of Radiologists and Nuclear Medicine MSc courses, organising the PET/CT oncology module in the latter.
