Biography

Dr Claire Dearden is Consultant Haematologist and Head of the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) Unit at The Royal Marsden and The Institute of Cancer Research, and Medical Director of the South West London Cancer Network.

She trained in haematology in London at Hammersmith Hospital, The Royal Marsden and St George's Hospital, and joined Professor Daniel Catovsky's group to undertake research into lymphoid malignancy. Her current research interests focus on mature B-cell and T-cell malignancies, including CLL, hairy cell leukaemia and T-cell leukaemias. She has been involved in clinical research studies using purine analogues, monoclonal antibodies and stem cell transplantation in a range of lymphoproliferative diseases.

Dr Dearden has also worked in Africa and the Caribbean performing further research on leukaemia epidemiology, Burkitt’s lymphoma and adult T-cell leukaemia lymphoma.

She is a member of numerous societies, including the British and American Societies of Haematology, is a member of the NCRI CLL Trials Group and is on the executive board of the UK CLL Forum.

She has also authored or co-authored many journal articles, meeting abstracts and book chapters in the field of haematological malignancy, including publications in The Lancet, Blood, British Journal of Haematology, Nature Genetics and The New England Journal of Medicine.
