Anaesthetic Department

Nurse and anaesthetist

The Anaesthetic Department is a team of 18 consultants, eight senior trainees (ST 5–7) and two fellows. We provide a specialist programme of anaesthesia, critical care, and an acute and chronic pain service for a wide variety of complex cancers.

As a recognised centre of excellence, dedicated to the treatment and research of cancer and its causes, we have the privilege of treating adults and children referred to us from all over the country, as well as abroad. This makes our clinical practice hugely rewarding.

By working alongside us we hope to provide a unique clinical experience, and to share with you our expertise in the field of cancer care and our dedication to high-quality, evidence-based, good practice.

We are absolute in our commitment to continued medical education and have invested a huge amount of resources in developing:

  • a number of excellent fellowship programmes
  • a soon-to-open high-specification simulation centre
  • a cardiopulmonary exercise facility
  • the newly refurbished anaesthetic department with fantastic IT facilities.

The simulation centre and exercise facility in particular will allow us to pursue an exciting and enormous opportunity for further research.
