Biography
Professor David Cunningham is the Head of the Gastrointestinal and Lymphoma Units of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. He qualified from Glasgow University and was a Cancer Research Campaign Fellow there. He then completed his training in Medical Oncology in London and was a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Cancer Research prior to his current post.
A recognised national and international leader in the field of gastrointestinal cancer, Professor Cunningham is Chair of the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Upper GI Clinical Studies Group, South West London Cancer Network Upper Gastrointestinal Tumour Working Group and the Pan London Speciality Training Committee in Medical Oncology. Until recently, he was also the Chair of the High Grade Lymphoma Subgroup of the NCRI Lymphoma CSG, and continues as an active member. In June 2004 he completed serving a 4 year term as a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Cancer Education Committee and was a member of ASCO’s Faculty Education Program in 2005.
Professor Cunningham is one of a select number of non-US members of the Editorial Board of the New England Journal of Medicine, as well as serving on the editorial boards of other peer reviewed journals such as the Annals of Oncology and the British Journal of Cancer. Professor Cunningham has published over 390 scientific papers and book chapters in the field of oncology and is regularly invited to lecture at the main international oncology meetings.
