The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded the highest possible ranking in the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) Annual Health Check for the fourth year in a row.
Twenty-five NHS acute and specialist trusts received double-excellent this year, but The Royal Marsden is the only trust nationally to achieve this for the fourth time. This is despite the challenges encountered after the fire in early 2008 which significantly reduced the Trust’s inpatient and operating capacity.
Quality of services and financial management
The 2008/09 Health Check results released today reveal The Royal Marsden received the highest score of 'excellent' for the two key performance indicators: quality of services and quality of financial management.
The score puts The Royal Marsden in the top 14.7% of acute and specialist trusts across the country for quality of services and financial management.
Outstanding effort and dedication
Chief Executive Cally Palmer said: “We are delighted to be awarded ‘double excellent’ as it offers our patients reassurance that they are receiving the best possible care.
“This has been a challenging year for The Royal Marsden with only half our operating capacity available at Chelsea as we continue to rebuild after the fire in January 2008, but our staff have once again achieved all quality targets.
“This has required outstanding effort and dedication, and I would like to express my deep appreciation and thanks to all staff at the Chelsea, Sutton and Kingston sites for their success in maintaining the highest standards of care for patients. It is a fantastic result.”
